Understanding Statement: There are over 4,000 different types of mammals in the world today and even though some live in water, on land, or can fly they are all the same family and they still depend on each other for life.

Introduction: Do you have a pet dog or cat of your own? Do you know what kind of animal they are? Today we will learn what kind of animal your cat and dogs are and why they are important to the world.

Questions:

                    1)  What is a mammal?

                    2) Where do mammals live?

                    3) Why are mammals important to our environment? What do you think

                        would happen if many species of mammals started to become extinct?

                    4) Bats are the only mammal that can fly and are also the most        

                         endangered  land  mammal in North America. Why are bats important to

                         the  world and how to they help the us?

                        Why is this?  

                    5) Pick your favorite mammal from the following link and explain why this

                        animal is a mammal. 

                    6) What are  the 3 types of mammals? Give an example of each.

                    7)  What is the largest living land animal?  What does it eat and how does it get

                         food?  

                    8) How are mammals able to regulate their body temperature?

                    9) Pick an animal from the link and describe what you think makes it a

                        mammal.

                   10)Why is it important for mammals to be able to regulate their body

                        temperature?

                   11) What can humans do to help protect mammals, such as dolphins,   

                        from gradually becoming extinct?

                   12) Is there any animal that you would like to learn more about? Which animal and what

                        would you like to learn?

 

Putting it all together: Create a graphic organizer using the 3 different types of mammals. Use a piece of paper and make three sections using the 3 types of mammals. Then list some of the animals that fall into each category and pick one to illustrate.
